FX is developing Stephen King’s Carrie into a limited series
US network FX is currently in the process of developing a limited series based on Stephen King’s Carrie, according to Variety.
Not much is known about the series yet in terms of creative team. It’s reportedly in the extremely early stages of development, so it will also be a while until a cast is put together.
King’s Carrie was first published in 1974, and tells the story of a bullied high school girl who discover she possesses dangerous magical powers. The novel was first published by Doubleday.
The first screen adaptation of the book came just two years later in 1976. The film was directed by Brian De Palma, and starred Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. The most recent adaptation was the 2013 Sony-Screen Gems production released in 2013 starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, and directed by Kimberly Pierce.
Other versions of the story have included 1988 Broadway show Carrie: The Musical, and 2002 TV movie Carrie from David Carson and Bryan Fuller.
The series isn’t the only Stephen King screen project currently in development. Other adaptations include Jerusalem’s Lot, The Dark Half and The Stand.
