Sophia Lillis has been cast as Gretel in Orion Pictures’ upcoming fantasy thriller Gretel And Hansel, according to THR.
Lillis, who is best known for her role as Beverly Marsh in Andy Muschietti’s It adaptation, is set to play Gretel in the film. A Hansel actor is yet to be announced.
Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Hansel And Gretel, the new film is describes as being “set a long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside and focuses on a young girl who leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.”
Osgood Perkins, the director of horror films like The Blackcoat’s Daughter and I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House, is helming the film, which he co-wrote with Rob Hayes.
Automatik Entertainment’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister, Upgrade) and Fred Berger (The Autopsy Of Jane Doe, La La Land) are producing, while Sandra Yee Ling is serving as an executive producer. Dan Kagan is overseeing the film on behalf of Orion.
The film is set to begin shooting in Ireland this autumn.
