Netflix working on a series based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels


Netflix has just greenlit a new series based on author Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse fantasy novels, Shadow And Bone and Six Of Crows, according to Deadline.

The series, which has been titled Shadow And Bone, is being developed by Eric Heisserer, the writer of Netflix’s recent hit original film Bird BoxHeisserer will also receive creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer credits. Shawn Levy, the executive producer of Stranger Things, is also on board. The project is part of Netflix’s overall deal for Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment.

Consisting of eight episodes, Shadow And Bone will combined the stories and characters of Bardugo’s overlapping book series and take place in her Grishaverse.

Deadline describes the new series as follows: “In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.”

Joining Levy and Heisserer as executive producers are Bardugo and Pouya Shahbazian (the Divergent series), as well as Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry for 21 Laps.
