It’s been a good long while since we heard anything about the potential TV series based on Anne Rice’s beloved Vampire Chronicles novels, but a wonderfully exciting piece of news has emerged concerning one of our favourites.
In an interview with THR (via io9), Paramount TV head Amy Powell said that Bryan Fuller, of American Gods and Hannibal, is helping to bring Lestat and company to the small screen. Eeeee.
There’s not a huge amount of info here, but here’s the quote in full:
“We bought 11 novels as part of the Vampire Chronicles initiative. Bryan Fuller is working with Anne Rice and [her son] Chris, who are writing the pilot. We are hoping he chooses to stay on and potentially showrun.”
Fuller recently departed American Gods along with his co-showrunner Michael Green over budgetary disagreements, so he could potentially have some room in his schedule. He’s also working on developing a reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories, and at some point we have faith that he’ll find a way to bring Hannibal back. We believe.
The Vampire Chronicles have been teetering on the brink of a new life on film and/or TV for some time now, with Josh Boone attached at one point. With such a wealth of material to work from and so many great characters, a TV series definitely makes sense, and it’s hard to think of a showrunner who’d enjoy the lush Gothic excess of the novels as much as Fuller. We’ve got our fingers crossed.
