It’s all change with the X-Men movie universe release dates, as The New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and Gambit have all been moved around per a report from THR.
The biggest shift comes for Josh Boone’s horror-flavoured The New Mutants, which has been hoofed from 13 April this year all the way into February 2019.
Meanwhile, Deadpool 2 will be coming a little earlier as the Merc With A Mouth has been moved from 1 June to 18 May. Finally, Gambit moves from its 14 February 2019 release date to 7 June. That moves comes with the news that Gore Verbinski has become the latest director to drop out of the Remy LeBeau solo vehicle, to which Channing Tatum is still attached. Verbinski follows Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt out of the movie, which just can’t seem to catch a break.
As for the hefty move for The New Mutants, THR says that it’s likely due to avoiding a release date overlap with Deadpool 2 in several overseas territories. Contrarily, a report from The Wrap claims that the film “isn’t scary enough.” Given that The New Mutants is supposed to be the start of a horror X-Men trilogy, you can see why that would be troubling.
Deadpool 2 will now open a week before Solo: A Star Wars Story and opposite Slenderman.
Nothing has changed on the X-Men: Dark Phoenix front, however, as Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut will hit on 2 November.
